Visiting the Foundry

Today Anthony and I went to the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia to bring some of the waxes to the foundry there, and also to see their facilities. The foundry was a giant open "garage/warehouse" space with all types of machines and equipment in which some of them looked very familiar. I noticed welding machines in one area, along with other basic tools like drill presses. All over hanging from the ceiling and in different sections of the foundry were sculptures being made. Some of them described were for the city of Philadelphia, while others would be traveling to Europe. The owner of the foundry then showed us to the back wax room where we saw many more projects he was working on, along with Mother Theresa, all in their wax state.
After visiting the foundry, Anthony took me to a jewelry casting place on Jeweler's Row. The place not only casts jewelry, but will also cast anything that's done in wax and is small in size.
Knowing these places and how they work put together the entire commission for me. By seeing the actual facilities and meeting the people helping with the commission, I now have a better understanding of the entire process. I am also very grateful in knowing these places and people for projects I will make in the future.
